The Knights of Columbus
… is an organization of dedicated individuals – over 1.8 million members strong, and growing. An organization that, since 1882, has embodied the selflessness of man as it has helped overcome the problems of the world. Poverty. Ignorance. Apathy. Things which impact all of humanity.

… are men of faith, comprising over 14,000 Knights of Columbus Councils in North and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but by our belief in each other, and in ourselves.

…believe that a man is defined by his actions as a follower of God, and as a leader in his community. Believing that a man is more than simply a man, when he bears the title of “Knight”.

Active In Our Community
The Knights of Columbus, Council 12637, has been supporting the Wynantskill area since 2000.  As a Fraternal Brotherhood of Catholic Men, we strive to follow the founding principles of: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. We do so through our sponsorship and participation in many charitable events and programs, as well as by supporting St. Jude the Apostle parish in Wynantskill and the efforts of our Bishop in the Greater Albany Diocese as a whole such as:

  1. Provide Bibles and savings bonds to children baptized at St Jude
  2. Sponsors and funds the "Coats for Kids" Program
  3. Support  the Food Drive at Thanksgiving and “Adopt a Family” at Christmas
  4. Sponsor after school bowling league & Twin Town Little League for children
  5. Drive awareness to keep “Christ” in Christmas
  6. Host a monthly  “All You Can Eat Breakfast” to build  community
  7. Adopted White View Road, picking up litter twice a year along it
  8. Host an annual Basketball Free Throw Contest to encourage youth activity
  9. Run the All American booth at the annual St Jude Int’l Food Festival
  10. Support St. Jude “movie night”, promoting  faith filled media
  11. Provide “sweat equity” to other ministries at St Jude with event setup/take down, cooking, and clean-up whenever necessary

Our History

In 1882, the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney invited a small group of parishioners to gather in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut. His goal was simple – to establish an order that would unite men in their faith as well as help provide for Catholic Families in time of need. It was in that humblest of beginnings that the Knights of Columbus was founded.

Guided by four core principles – charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism – these founding members worked to overcome the hardships of the time. Poverty. Unemployment. Even persecution.

Father McGivney’s perseverance and foresight have resulted in the largest Catholic fraternal and humanitarian organization ever created. An organization that has endured for over a century because of the inspirational courage of so many.
